MIRSL Graduate Curriculum
There are a variety of courses offered both within the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and outside of it, within the University system, that offer unique educational opportunities for students. In the end, each student works with their advisor to pick the best curriculum suited to themselves. However, there are a number of courses that form the backbone of a "nominal" MIRSL curriculum. A sample of this curriculum for a Masters & PhD student is given below, with more courses provided per term than necessary to meet graduation requirements. Microwave engineering students participate in research, or take laboratory courses to learn microwave measurement techniques; most do both. The emphasis on experimental measurements is a strength of UMass programs, distinguishing them from programs which emphasize theoretical analysis and computational simulation.
During their first two years in MIRSL, students usually take three courses each semester. A typical MIRSL student's course curriculum is given here as an example.
