Research Facilities
The Microwave Remote Sensing Laboratory is located on the first and second floors of the Knowles Engineering Building, erected in 1991. From the initial planning stages, this building was dedicated specifically to designing, fabricating, and testing research sensors and preparing them for field experiments.
The Microwave Remote Sensing Laboratory occupies more than 9,000 square feet of laboratory space for the development of advanced microwave and millimeter-wave radars, radiometers, and systems for the reduction of data gathered by these sensors. These laboratories contain the test equipment needed to develop sensors operating from HF to millimeter-wave frequencies as high as 225 GHz.
MIRSL is exceptionally well-equipped to conduct engineering research on advanced-concept microwave and millimeter-wave remote sensors. Its laboratories contain the state-of-the-art test equipment needed to analyze and evaluate modern electronic components and systems. System electronic performance is accurately determined through the use of advanced network and spectrum analyzers and other specialized test instruments.
